BCS Bowl Season is Here

Even though the college football regular season is over, it still doesn’t mean that Saturday football is over until next fall.  Now is the time when fans find out who will be playing in the bowl games.

Despite the fact that there are dozens of different bowls ranging from the Outback Bowl to the Gator Bowl there are only 5 big bowl games that matter in most viewers eyes:  the Fiesta Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, and of course the BCS title game.

The BCS title game is going to be played on January 7, but with the regular season over it is time to decide who is going.  Notre Dame is assured a spot in the title game because they had an undefeated season.  This was the first time that the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame are going to get a shot at the title in many years.

The only other undefeated team in college football is Ohio State.  However, since the Buckeyes and their head coach, Jim Tressel, broke several NCAA rules last season they were banned from being able to play in a bowl game.  So the best they could do this year was an undefeated season, which they accomplished.

With the Buckeyes out of contention for the BCS title game, it comes down to who the winner is of the SEC (South Eastern Conference) championship game.  One of teams that is up for a chance to play Notre Dame in the title game is the Georgia Bulldogs who have had a solid season with a record of 11-1.

Their opponent in the SEC Championship will be the Crimson Tide of Alabama who is also 11-1.  The Crimson Tide is expected to win the SEC championship game because of their powerful and bowl-experienced offense.

The other 4 main bowl games are the Fiesta Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Rose Bowl, and the Orange Bowl.  For the Fiesta Bowl it is expected that Kansas State will play the always potent Oregon Ducks.  The Sugar Bowl is expected to have the big match up between the Oklahoma Sooners and the Florida Gators.  The Orange Bowl is expected to have the Florida State Seminoles against the red hot team from Rutgers University.  Finally, in the Rose Bowl Nebraska is expected to host Stanford in Pasadena, California.
