New Faces in the Penguins Locker Room

With the roster that the Penguins have put together, and the great success they have had thus far, General Manager Ray Shero feels like the Penguins need to win this year.  In order to do so, he made a few key moves to bolster the team’s roster.

The first new addition to the Roster was veteran winger, Brenden Morrow.  Morrow was traded to the Pens from the Dallas stars about a week before the trade deadline.  Morrow has spent his entire career in Dallas and was the captain before he was dealt.  He is getting up there in age, and with Dallas out of the playoff hunt, he wanted to take a shot at the cup.  He is a gritty player with great leadership, and a nice goal scoring touch.  He will be a big addition to the Penguins’ roster.

The next deal that GM Ray Shero made was to bring in Defenseman Douglas Murray.  Murray was traded from the San Jose sharks just a few days after Morrow. Murray is a big physical defensive defenseman who will move people out of the front of the net, block shots, and make that big hit.  He is getting up there in age as well, and some say he has lost an edge skating wise, but he has shined so far for the Pens.

The third player Shero added to the roster, was the biggest of the three; Jarome Iginla was dealt a few days before the deadline to the Pens.  Jarome Iginla is one of the greatest players in the NHL in recent memory.  He has scored more than 500 goals in his career and has been the Captain and face of the Calgary Flames franchise for his entire career.  He decided to waive his no trade clause in order to have a shot at his first Stanley Cup.  He will be a great addition to either Crosby or Malkin’s wing.

The last player that Ray Shero brought in was versatile forward Jussi Jokinen.  Jokinen can pretty much do it all.  If the team needs him to play center and win face-offs, he can do that, and he can also play on the wing.  He is a penalty-killing specialist, and also has a great goal scoring touch.  He is truly a wonderful two-way hockey player and will surely add some depth to the Penguins already stacked roster.

Ray Shero made four trades at the deadline bringing in four great players, that will most definitely help the Penguins’ chances. The moves indicate that the Penguins are all in, in their quest for the Stanley Cup.
