Seneca Valley Stomps Brashear on the Court
The Seneca Valley boys’ Varsity basketball team defeated Brashear Tuesday at 7:30 on their home court by a score of 76-35. Seneca Valley jumped to an early lead and never trailed in the contest, throwing an intense full court press at the Bulls.
The Raiders were led by senior Mike Smith who scored 16 points and added 10 rebounds. Other key contributors included juniors Zach Snyder, TJ Holl and Dakota Topf.
Following a narrow 60-58 loss to Mars in the Scott Lang Tip-off Tournament, the Raiders were able to come back and handle the opposition, thriving off of steals along the way. The win advanced the boys’ overall record to 2-1.
This win came to the Raiders with the use of good ball movement, rebounding and their ability to outrun Brashear’s defense. There was also a very noticeable amount of unselfishness among the players, which was evident in the assist column and also the number of easy shots that were hit throughout the game.
Sharp passing and quick shots are both parts of an up-tempo offense that should generate more offense for the Raiders this season. With a roster consisting of fast and skilled players, the team’s game plan of fast breaks and tighter defense should be more easily achieved.
The Raiders are currently preparing for Friday night’s home game which will be a section-opener against the Shaler Area Titans at 7:30.
