Thursday, January 24 kicked off the 17th annual Winter X Games in Aspen, CO. The games started off with Skiing SuperPipe Men’s Elimination and ended with the Snowboard SuperPipe Finals. The Snowboard SuperPipe Finals has been the final event in the X Games for years now.

During this event Shaun White won his 6th straight gold in this event. This gives White his 15th X Games gold medal, 8 of which are in the Snowboard SuperPipe.

This year the X Games suffered its first death when Caleb Moore, 25 year old professional snowmobile rider, tragically died on Thursday, January 31, due to injuries suffered on the 24 while he was competing.

Moore had suffered a concussion during the snowmobile freestyle final when the snowmobile hit a landing and flipped onto Moore, while being examined he was found to have bleeding on his heart and then later died due to brain complications, according to the family spokeswoman Chelsea Lawson.
