Easton Bazzoli, a 6’5″ senior guard at Seneca Valley, represented the school well during the Roundball Classic  held at Geneva College last Saturday night. Bazzoli threw a game stopping dunk during the all-star game that shattered the backboard to microscopic pieces.

With less then a minute left in Bazzoli’s final high school game, the Class AAAA all-star received a pass from New Castle’s Antonio Rudolph and dunked the ball in his normal manner. It was then that the backboard shattered, the rim came down and the fourth and final game had to be stopped, or as the announcer says “That about does it” according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I knew that I had to stretch out a little bit extra to make the dunk and it was a little awkward,” Bazzoli said. “I knew I would have to grab the rim so that I wouldn’t slip. It just broke real quick.”

A feat like this is known from basketball greats like Shaquille O’Neal, Michael Jordan, Darryl Dawkins, Gus Johnson and Jerome Lane. “Everybody said it’s pretty awesome,” Bazzoli told the Post-Gazette. “I thought it was pretty cool. It’s not something a lot of people have done.”

Easton took a piece of glass from the backboard as a souvenir, he hopes to work with the athletic department at Geneva College to try and get the rim he brought down. He ‘s told many that he “never thought the dunk would break the backboard,” with a play like that he hopes to get a higher quality video from another player who’s family was taping the game to send it into ESPN SportsCenter.

Bazzoli was one of  the best players in the WPIAL this past season, as he well represented his section as a guard during the tournament.

He will be attending Cedarville University in the fall on a full ride basketball scholarship. Cedarville is an NCAA Division II team  who prevailed while going 22-9 this past season. When speaking to Bazzoli he stated that “It’s an up-and-coming program, that I’m extremely excited to play for.”
