Pittsburgh Marathon Set for This Sunday As Planned

May 3, 2013
The Pittsburgh Marathon is happening this Sunday, scheduled to begin at 7:00 AM. The marathon is still going on despite some concern due to the Boston Marathon bombing that happened recently.
While the thousands of runners are gearing up to start their run, the medics are being prepared for any injuries that might happen. They are prepared for many injuries, whether it is just regular running injuries or any emergency whether things get much worse like the Boston Marathon.
On Wednesday Dr. Ronald Roth, a doctor of emergency medicine with UPMC said, “Medical preparation for the marathon is really a yearlong thing, but as you can imagine the tragedy in Boston has prompted us to take an even closer look at what we do here in Pittsburgh.”
“This, along with our internal conversations with the marathon, with the city of Pittsburgh and with Allegheny County, resulted in us bringing additional equipment to our finish line and taking additional steps to make sure that the runners, the spectators and our volunteers will be safe at this year’s marathon,” Dr. Roth said.
