Biden Confronts Ryan in Vice Presidential Debate

Biden Confronts Ryan in Vice Presidential Debate

Thursday night’s debate between Vice President Joe Biden and Republican Paul Ryan had a bit more contrast than last week’s Presidential Debate between President Obama and former Governor Mitt Romney.  The arguments and reactions were filled with mocking smiles and smirks, mostly coming from our Vice President.

Both Biden and Ryan were ready for whatever moderator Martha Raddatz from CBS news, threw at them. One thing they couldn’t seem to do is let one another finish their statements.  They were “neck in neck,” fighting for the two minutes they were given to speak their opinions.

When Raddatz brought up the subject of Foreign Affairs, Ryan was ready and attacked Obama’s policies.  Biden bounced back and called Ryan out:  “a bunch of malarkey… not a single thing he said was true.” Throughout the debate, Biden rebutted many of Ryan’s claims, calling them “inaccurate” and “all this loose talk”.

While Biden seemed to not hold back his reactions, Ryan seemed more calm and collect. But as the debate rolled on, Biden’s reactions fired Ryan up. This was Ryan’s response to Biden bringing up Romney’s notorious 47% speech: “This is a man who gave 30 percent of his income to charity, more than the two of us combined…Mitt Romney’s a good man. He cares about 100 percent of Americans in this country. And with respect to that quote, I think the Vice President very well knows that sometimes the words don’t come out of your mouth the right way.”

After these two men battled it out over the foreign affairs in the Middle east, the economy, healthcare, taxes, and some personal views on abortion, it was time for the closing statement.  Neither seemed willing to let the other have the final word. They interrupted each other repeatedly and Raddatz as well.

Later that night, President Obama was caught saying, “I thought Joe Biden was terrific tonight. I could not be prouder of him.”

Insiders from the Romney campaign stated that the former governor called Ryan on the phone and congratulated him personally.

Obama and Romney hold their next debate on Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Hempstead, N.Y.
